Jerry Crummel: Composer and Music Educator

Jerry Crummel's lifelong dedication to music education and composition has made a lasting impact on band programs in Texas. Born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, Jerry's passion for music emerged early on. After attending Arlington Heights High School, he pursued his love for music by earning a Bachelor of Music Education degree from North Texas State University in 1977.

Jerry's career in music education spans several decades, starting with teaching roles at Spring High School, Aldine High School, and culminating in a remarkable 32-year tenure at Brazosport High School. Even after retirement, Jerry's commitment to nurturing young musical talent continued as he devoted three years to teaching beginning band at S.F. Austin Stem Academy. During this time he started composing practice sight-reading pieces for his wife's band program. It was during this time that a new chapter unfolded in Jerry's career. His passion for composing flourished, driven by the inspiration of teaching and the desire to create music that resonates with budding musicians. As a result, JLC Music Publications was established, becoming the outlet for Jerry to share his compositions with Texas band programs.

Apart from his teaching and composition endeavors, Jerry has remained an integral part of the Brazosport Symphony Orchestra for an astounding 40 years. His commitment to musical excellence extends to his involvement in the vibrant musical productions at the Brazosport Center for the Arts and Sciences, where his contributions have helped enrich the local arts community.

Jerry is an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association. He has written over twenty-five marches that have been performed at Texas UIL concert contests. He also has numerous practice sight-reading selections and concert selections that he has composed. With a career marked by unwavering passion and a relentless pursuit of musical excellence, Jerry Crummel continues to inspire and uplift through his music.
